Joe reached out to me a week before he wanted to propose to Lauren. They both share an immense love for the outdoors and are avid hikers. They have hiked trails all over Angeles National Forest to prepare for their Machu Picchu hike last year. So, needless to say, proposing at an epic view was a non-negotiable. Joe sent me several trails, and I sent him some. Some they’ve done before, some new; all with amazing views at the end.

Just two days before the proposal, we set our plan in stone. Joe was going to take Lauren on a hike, then on the way back, make a little detour to check out Crystal Lake, where I would be waiting to capture the moment around 5pm. Joe would ask Lauren to take a photo with him, and conveniently, I would nearby and offer to take the photo for them.

The plan was SET. I had gotten to the spot around 10am to find the exact spot it would happen. I found a few contenders, and sent them over to Joe. He picked spot #2, which had a perfect crystal clear view of the lake and mountains. It was a perfectly clear day, so once 5pm comes, the light will be PERFECT.

It’s 4:30pm, and I head back down to the lake only to see the most foggy scene I had ever seen. You couldn’t even see the lake. You could barely see a person 20 feet in front of you. Knowing how important it was for Joe to propose at a scenic view, I was definitely panicking a bit.

5pm comes and I hear them walking down the trail. Joe asks me to take a photo of them, and I say the code phrase “you guys look great!” so he knows it’s to time to propose. And he gets down on one knee and gives Lauren the sweetest speech. She’s ecstatic. His nerves are finally gone and he’s ecstatic too. My nerves are gone too because we did it!

After the proposal, I got this text from Joe. Everything went perfect. None of us would have changed a thing. And these are maybe the most incredible proposal photos I’ve ever gotten to take.
